Frequently Asked Questions
Does this bark collar shock my dog?
No - the DogRook is completely shock-free. It uses sound and vibration only to interrupt barking. There's no static, no prongs, and no pain involved, which is exactly why we chose to stock this one over static bark collars.
Will it fit my large dog?
Yes - the adjustable strap fits necks from 42cm to 58cm, which covers most medium and large breeds, from Staffies and Kelpies up to German Shepherds, Labs, and similar. Measure your dog's neck where a collar naturally sits to confirm before ordering.
Are bark collars cruel?
Static (shock) collars are controversial, which is why we don't sell them. A sound-and-vibration collar like this one works by interruption, not pain — the vibration is a distraction, similar to a tap on the shoulder. Used correctly, alongside addressing why your dog is barking, it's a humane training aid. Used as a substitute for exercise, company, and training, no tool is fair on the dog.
How long can my dog wear it each day?
Treat it as a training tool, not an everyday collar. Use it during the periods barking is a problem — and take it off overnight and during play. Check the skin under the contact points regularly, especially in the first weeks, and reposition it between sessions so it's not sitting on the same spot for hours.
Will it stop all barking?
Honest answer: it's very effective on habit and nuisance barking — the fence-line barking, the barking at every passing dog. If your dog barks from separation anxiety, boredom, or under-exercise, the collar will interrupt the symptom but the cause will find another outlet. Fix the cause (more exercise, enrichment, training) and use the collar to break the habit, and you'll get a lasting result.
Is it waterproof?
It's weatherproof — rain, wet grass, and general outdoor life are fine. It's not designed for swimming though, so take it off before your dog hits the water (which you'd want to do anyway, since it's a training-session tool rather than an all-day collar).
